Looking for a Linux audio/video player particularly good with very long files, like audiobooks, or many hours long video lectures.  The seekbar has not enough resolution to scroll through very long files.  Something like a fine+gross seekbar seen on some YouTube videos would be very useful, same for thumbnail preview while seeking.

Arrows and CTRL or Shift + Arrow in most players (VLC, MPV, etc.) only work for small, 10 seconds back seeking or so, not good to go 2 minutes back in 10 hours video.

Would like to have:
- changeable playback speed, on the fly and without changing voice pitch
- remember last used playback speed when opening the next lesson/file
- thumbnail preview in the video seek bar
- very accurate seeking inside files that can be as long as 10 hours, i.e. an audiobook

Any recommendation for such an A/V player?

I just found the "Jump to time (Previous frame)" extension for VLC. It's a LUA script so it should be easy to customize.

Download page and install instructions are here:

https://addons.videolan.org/p/1154013/

(note the download link is at the bottom of the page and that there are different versions for VLC 2.x and VLC 3.x)

The LUA code is only 280 lines long and shows how to create the UI and the VLC calls you need to get/set the current time so it would be easy to modify to have buttons which advance/go back custom time steps.

That would be a good one, thank you.

Do you know any that has a double seeking bar, gross+fine, and with thumbnail preview?  Would be nice to have something with preview, for when you don't know for sure how much time to jump back, but you want to go back, for example, where the last lesson start in a batch of 10 lectures in the same 10 hours file.
