Kintex XC7K325T for $45
« on: October 22, 2020, 03:23:13 am »
Found this interesting deal while searching Ebay, basically a FPGA based SSD minus the Flash board:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SSD-800G-XC7K325T-2FFG900C-FPGA-Solid-State-SSD-Drive/373031251427
Sadly, the free tools do not seem to support it or I would have bought it right away.

I believe, though I haven't tried it myself, that you can rent a full Vivado image on AWS. It's in the list of AMIs (Amazon Machine Images).

If you had a project that you could parameterize for a smaller device, and do most of the development on your own machine, perhaps it would make sense to rent such an AWS instance for a few hours on occasion.

I would have bought it right away.

The listing says it's sold for parts and not working.

Most likely because the Flash board was removed. There's a chance it could be made to work for some other purpose.

Without schematic, it's probably quite useless.
And no connectors/pins for external I/O.
Most things I did with programmable logic so far did fit well into small to mid sized CPLD, such a large FPGA is quite useless for small projects.
