https://www.ebay.com/itm/284146993530I saw this on eBay while looking for FPGA things. This board has ten Virtex-6 FPGAs on it. Only one side is visible in the pictures, but I see no evidence of any off-chip RAM or any other high-speed interfaces. This is extremely curious to me - what on earth needs so many large FPGAs but has no high speed interfaces?
My best guess is that it's maybe some kind of crypto miner, but I've never heard of a crypto miner using top-end FPGA families which are generally not cost effective. Of course, it's possible that these were obtained late in the 6th generation Virtex lifecycle cheaply and repurposed for this.
Any other speculations?
I kinda want to buy one to see if it yields more clues, but I'm holding back because I know that the chance that I will go to the trouble of spinning a new board to take advantage of an already old FPGA is pretty much nil, and I'd have to remove them from whatever this is first.
