What u think of my PCB design? -cnc breaking board-
« on: November 21, 2013, 04:54:26 am »
I love jumper wire coz I'm lazy to design PCB.  :P But I think it time to move on. To be more cute! :D
So this is my first PCB design with Eagle PCB. Cnc breaking board.

Since this is not so complex circuit so I try to use trace quite big. Except logic from parallels port quite dense so I reduce size.

Comment me anything guy. I wish I have something to be better next version! Thank! :)

Comment? you may ask the wrong wish! you can be cuter with "jumpers", there are alot better reasons for making pcb other than being cute ;) and posting layers in separate images can be difficult both for you and us. well not so usefull comments.

I just kidding about 'cute' u know.  :) Actually I designed few PCBs some time ago in university even I like it but I'm not usually do that. So now is my personal projects and I'd like it to be…. yes! cute is one thing in mind.  :P The others is to be more neat , reliable , stable than temporary "jumpers" maybe one day who know, I can commercial ;D Anyway I love jumpers coz it good in testing before build PCB-board version.

I really want to know any feed back! Even if I can do little better I feel very good so that I can do better next time!  PCB design is also important factor! My goal is to make it as good as I can. Reliable , stable also look good. Please feel free to comment me anything. What u think of it!   :-DMM

Can't comment on the schematics, but I'd rather not route a signal trace on the component side under an USB connector (K2) - not under any shielded connector, as a matter of fact. That's like hanging a "shorts welcome" sign...

It seems a pretty good board to me.

Just check if there is enought clearance in the drill in the high right corner, the trace is pretty near the drill

The point with the optocouplers are normally to make galvanic isolation, here you have mixed the routing for the two sides and the isolation will not withstand much.
It would be better if the 6 optos where all in one line possibly best placed close to the top of the board,  keep the two sides signals apart by at least 3mm and preferably the same distance as the opto pins.
Make keep-out  areas for routing under the optocoupler strip to help you not go there.

Move the resistors on the left down and right to make space if you have to, there should be plenty unused area when you have the optos on a line.

Oh! u mean a trace pass shield USB connector right?

Thank u! I've fail to notice this! I'll reroute this one may be I'll add a vias. I try to avoid using vias since it is not so complex.  :-/O

What is it breaking?
It is a PC-parallels-port interface board. It send signal to stepper-motor driver board to drive little XYZ-cnc machine. Don't know why people call breaking board anyway. Make more sense to call interface board.  ^-^

Thank!  >:D And u mean this area , am I right? Yes that drill I'll put a screw-nut through. I'll check this.

How to simple check distant in EAGLE?
So far I use mouse click and read location info of 2 component or trace then I use calculator to minus (and plus width of [trace]/2 or [component]/2) Is there any more faster and simpler way?

Oh! Yeah! Never think about that before! I only think isolated can prevent some noise generated from motor and protect PC to be fried in case short circuit/overload or any accident from motor-driver circuit.

So to be more good signal isolation I'd not to mixed or cross trace of in and out signal and keep it distant right? I've try search others board in google for example. Is this what u try to tell me , am I right? (please see yellow arrow is these pics)
           (schematic board A)
    (board A)
  (board B)
   (board C)

I'll try to move opto above top clearly I can make room since opto is big and it moved up only trace place is small so maybe plenty room as u say. I'll do version2!  ^-^

thank!  :-+
still welcome any comment. pls  :-DMM

Yes,
board B is a good example, don't do as board C did (route on the inside reducing the gap)

I've change little bit on top clearance between nut-screw and a trace, left clearance between terminal, nut-screw and some trace.
    (dark background)  top + bottom
   (dark background)  top
  (dark background)  bottom

   (white background)  top + bottom
(white background)  top
  (white background)  bottom

I'll try to move opto-isolated above top and make more clearance on trace under hem. So it make better isolated-signal also make more room down. That will be next plan for version. 2  :)
Feel free to comment me anything. Thank u.   >:D
