Need an upgrade from ARES
« on: November 21, 2014, 06:46:53 pm »
I've been using ARES (counterpart to ISIS) for as long as I've been doing electronics, only a year or two, and I'm very used to it. It's been fine so far but it's quite lacking in some areas. For example via stitching, I've not found a way to set a via so it sits solidly in a copper plane. You have to place a through hole then right click on it and set the relief to solid, which is a bit of a bitch when you have to do a hundred of them. From the PCBs I've been doing over the last week I have RSI in my right hand and can't use my PC for more than a few mins at a time before it hurts too much to click a mouse (none of my friends believe it's from PCB editing of course...).

Anyway I want something that's a bit more advanced, that also isn't too expensive. I'd love Altium if I could ever get to grips with it, but I don't have that kind of money available. Any suggestions?
