usb c Splitter for Android Auto with PD fast charge
« on: December 14, 2023, 03:53:37 am »
so I have a broken PCB for an android auto PD fast charge. normally it will PD fast charge my phone and give me android auto from my car, normally my built in car usb charges so slow I loose battery. the device has two inputs one for car data and one for a separate PD fast charger. It combines these into one USB out for my phone. the part I am trying to figure out is how the existing PCB works for this application. so I can just make a cable to cable alternative. The PCB diagram for pin out is as follows in the drawing. Does this pin out look like it would work correctly? the only reason it broke was the ucb c port cracked off it was working fine before that. the usbc port broke a couple power traces on the pcb or I would have fixed it. let me know if this diagram makes any sense it was just me tracing out the PCB lines with a flash light so there is a margin of error potentially. I would just order another but the guy who makes them on tindie is not answering. I tried to link the pdf but I think because I am new it wont let me here is a google drive link to the document that shows the pin out diagram https://drive.google.com/file/d/1432bUYRYdRLFNCOJtvREBuiduLd8GxIu/view?usp=drive_link

additional information, input takes one usb C from the PD charger and one Micro B from the android auto car connection and then output as a usb C with PD and android Auto.
Addition links to pictures of the PCB and diagrams.

let me know if you need me to do testing on it to further figure anything out.

The right forum for this is probably Beginners or Projects, anyway:

What you've drawn mostly makes sense, but I'm not sure why you connect Tx to Rx, wouldn't you just want a straight pass through?
The broken traces are too difficult to repair?

You can read instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidAuto/comments/efzm1g/custom_yadapter_cable_for_power_delivery_pd_and/
Or buy the appropriate cable from aliexpress for a few dollars.

I did actually follow those reddit directions and for some reason the cable I made did not work. the issue I think was the amazon link to the cable changed because the color coding of the inside wires was different from the OP poster pics to the amazon product in the link for the usb c extensions. I think there is something to this PCB adapters  topology that makes it work better than a cable. I have no idea why TX and RX are bound together could it be something with PD charging or android auto? I did post some picture of the PCB if those can help you diagnose the error in my diagram maybe I made a mistake and tx and rx are not bound? the traces on this board are super thin and the usb connectors were all flapping in the wind and that's why it broke I no longer have any usb ports left because they all broke off. so it was more me abandoning the pcb due to needing to not only solder the ports back but replace I think 6 traces I did not feel it would be reliable anymore.

If you dont want to go through the DIY route, there has been premade product. https://www.lectronz.com/products/fast-charge-injection-androidauto-carplay
