Gerber Files / Vias
« on: February 05, 2012, 05:34:41 pm »
Hi

I have a little question about vias in gerber files. In which gerber file does a pcb manufracturer see which pads are for vias? (2 Layer board) He has to know which pads are only for the tough hole elements and which are for vias. There must be a file who specified the vias? Do i misunderstood anything?

Thanks

He doesn't have to know. A hole in the board is a hole in the board, he only needs to know if you want it plated or not and that will usually be defined by supplying separate drill files for plated and non-plated holes.

For more exotic board manufacture with blind or buried or filled vias separate dill files are likely to be used to indicate the requirements.
