Oneplus 8 sees through objects...
« on: May 14, 2020, 08:30:04 pm »
But a dodgy tech but
, someone tries oneplus 8 ir camera, and was able to see through some plastics, opaque to naked eye.

CCTV cameras had the ability since ages (only an ir pass through filter was required)

And the media makes a show out of it as if it's a quantum age cutting edge tech.

Kinda makes us people who've been modding cameras since ages to do the same, look like dorks.

It just makes me wonder if any serious general media organisation bothers to check the scientific credentials of their correspondents any more.

The answer would seem to be mostly not.

When I was a boy, the Exchange & Mart weekly small-ads paper had an advert offering details of an "amazing invention that lets you see through walls", inviting the reader to send about six months' pocket-money for "plans".

I am glad I didn't waste my money. It took years, but eventually I realised they were probably selling you information about a window.

Rubber bands bridge the gap between WD40 and duct tape.

If it was the same company that advertised (in seventies) a device that allowed you to see through walls up to 25 cm thick, then, as the magazine "Chelovek i Zakon" wrote, the buyer received a toy telescope and drill, 25 cm long.

Re the original post: this general topic was looked at in the Thermal Imaging forum and some interesting stuff came up - but a stock cellphone isn't going to replace medical X-Rays (or whatever) anytime soon.

Yup completely different end of the spectrum, literally, can't compare near ir to x-ray

You could use a low tech solution that I remember seeing in the back pages of magazines in the 1950s.  8)
