Great, now every intersection needs to have its own plumbing, for water. 

And what happens when it rains or there's loads of humidity in the air?  You probably just get a blob of red in front of you.  Or in the winter, when it snows or there's ice covering the surface or the leds causing difraction or whatever it's called.

Not sure if the emergency services would like to be confronted with this if they need to be somewhere fast.

They say it works because it's based on the principle of uncertainty (not being sure if it physically possible to run the red light without a guaranteed crash).
The problem is that this uncertainty principle goes for everyone else on and near that cross section as well.
They can't see sh*t either.

It's not even an original idea.

 It looks as though they have taken a genuinely useful safety mechanism - the used in Sydney tunnels as a last-ditch effort to stop crazed truck drivers - and removed everything that makes it practical.

So we spray water on the road to avoid traffic accidents. Right next to the zebra, where you supposed to walk. Sorry guys, that is just stupid, unless you have some alien technology.

Whilst viewing the red mist video I had a completely contrarian idea. Instead of stopping at intersections why not have flow through intersections. In the video there is one driver who makes it through thick perpendicular traffic without getting T-boned.  In the future of google auto drive cars they could be interlinked so that they make mutually timed non-interfering arrival to the intersection pavement, continuous cross flow the result! That would be fun to experience.

Water Freakin Stop-signs!

Much more effective would be electrified kerbs that give a belt to iPod/Smart phone zombies when they inevitably attempt to step into moving traffic without looking.
