Hi Guys,

just wanted to let you know about 2 of my acquaintances KickStarter - The Anqor MiFi box.  (<<= DISCLAIMER I know the founders so I'm not completely objective)

In short - they have Simcards for data packages in their office. Upon startup the box queries the networks for best providers of data where you are - and then downloads a virtual sim card from the main office. The SIM card is then activated and you have data access.

It is not super cheap - but for those who travel a lot I think it might be worth it :)

The founders have many years of experience doing MVNO software.

patent? on what exactly?

+ they will be a middlemen between you and ISPs, this might be ok for average (L)user, but most engineers are fine with 10 minutes it takes to buy local sim card and put it in your dual-sim phone.

Anyway, business users don't want to waste time on stuff like that. They paid thousands of Pounds just to get a better seat on the aircraft so they could arrive ready to work, so the monthly cost of this thing is going to negligible. Less than taking their client to dinner.

this is the second part of my argument .. that I forgot to write :D
Business users pay so much for hotel, tickets, dinners, that they pretty much DONT CARE about costs of roaming.

Already 57* countries supported. It's also already tried and tested real product that people can buy.

*According to latest sources. More countries will be added

Good review of the device. No risk of crowdfunding, you can already buy this from the stores.

this is cool. $60/month for 2GB in a whole stack of countries is a pretty good deal if you are a heavy traveller. Another problem with PAYG cards is that they can take 5-10 business days to activate (that's what happened to me on ee in england...), so by the time it works you've already left

I have TMobile and when I traveled with the world plan it was around $1 minute. But now it's 20 cents per minute and unlimited texting and data abroad.

Not sure why I would want a 2nd sim card/phone, it's not like I would spend more than 5 minutes on a call.

Coverage: over 120 countries
