This is the second coil from OneTesla. I was in on the first one, and am quite happy with what was provided. It came a bit late, but they communicated fairly well throughout. [they had an issue getting the metal torroids manufactured] I would expect this one to run much smoother, and have no doubts that they will deliver on what was promised.

I don't quite understand why the MIDI interface... Wouldn't it have been simpler and more useful to just make it a generic speaker with a line in?

MIDI has several advantages:
Line in does not work very well because you can only switch the output stage on and off, so no analogue values in between.
Most tesla coil driver circuits overload the mosfets/igbts to get the highest possible power. Therefore it is necessary to limit the duty cycle. This is much easier when you generate the frequency yourself.
