Edit: and he never claims free energy on his videos, as in from nowhere. But he has done pretty cool batteries and other things.
He actually makes fun of free energy on april fools on his youtube channel.

I think his kickstarter campaign should drop the "Free Energy" in the title; it seems like perhaps he realized these are just batteries that need more research to determine their limits.  There's nothing wrong with crowdfunding that research, if he's transparent up front about why he wants the money.

Furthermore, batteries that have a low energy density are not really very good at all.  And he keeps talking about wanting to build motors that draw just microAmps of current to make it run longer, but it's pretty useless if it has no power and thus no ability to do real work like a motor should .

Lasersaber Is Laserhacker.com, but not sure if he is the guy doing the kickstarter. I didn't see anything about it on his own forum nor his youtube channel, also the kickstarter doesn't mention lasersaber or laserhacker other than on the video that he used, and that video belongs to lasersaber (aka laserhacker)

Anyways I sent him a message via youtube to see if it's him, because it makes no sense that we will be looking for just $5K he doesn't seem to need that.


Edit: also it doesn't make sense because the video is already one year old and those motors are still running on his live cam, so why not say two and a half years? Someone is trying to cash in (only $5K) on someone's reputation. At least that's what I think.

I do believe this happened; although in the case of the uCurrent copycat, it was clearly a branding issue as well as a direct rip off of all of Dave's material. In this case, it's the research which doesn't seem to be as well defined.

Magnesium and copper cell
The Two-Compartment Electrochemical Cell:
In the above single replacement reactions, the more active metal gave its electrons directly to the ion of a different metal.  The electrochemical cell does the same thing but the electrons must pass through a wire first.  This allows us to develop voltage and power some electrical device. The two compartments (two beakers) separate the active metal from the ions that it will be sending its electrons.

Earlier you added magnesium ribbon to a copper(II) sulfate solution.  The magnesium atoms gave its electrons directly to the Cu2+ ions.  In the setup on the left, the metal magnesium atoms send their electrons through the wire, through the voltmeter, through the copper strip, and finally to the Cu2+ ions in the copper sulfate solution on the right. Copper ions become copper metal and the magnesium atoms that sent their electrons become magnesium ions. So the overall equation is the same as before.  The main difference is that magnesium metal and copper ions were never in direct contact with each other.:
