I'd like to explain based on my own understanding:

Arduino-compatible boards like these shown on Renesas boards must be cheap and available, but they are not! The GR-Peach thing is around 122$ minimum  for an Arduino Uno form factor board... So the newbie asks himself "why should I get it when I can buy 10 Arduinos for the same price?".

Plus, Renesas support for the community is shit. No hacker\maker\hobbyist buys their stuff since it is pricey and very hard to start with. They didn't make ANY effort to simplify them and make them friendly. Look for STM32 boards for example, they are extremely cheap and some rumors say that the company is selling them on a loss just to get into the market.

I like Renesas products and wish I have time to dig into them in the future, but that is x100 times harder than doing anything else in embedded world  :-- :--

My 2 cents,
Prince of all Saiyans

Dear Vegeta
I appreciate your straight forward expression of dissatisfaction related to the price points.
Unlike other boards, GR PEACH is not using an MCU but an MPU based on ARM Cortex A9.
It uses RZ-A1H family of Renesas processors. Please read more here  -
https://www.renesas.com/en-in/products/microcontrollers-microprocessors/rz.html

The power offered here is much more than a simple MCU based board.

The good news is, we are giving the board (full version) free of cost to all the hobbyists, makers who express interest.

We have My Renesas forum - community driven initiative.
So you see there is a change for good, to help support community.

I hope you would try this out . http://gadget.renesas.com/en/contest/2017/ANZ/

Thanks

Dear ShwetaBaid,

I told you I like Renesas but getting started with their tools is a lot harder than other vendors of all kinds. Changing is nice too.

I know that the board is powerful but how can a hobbyist or a beginner engineer like me do good stuff with it? stuff that utilize its power like making nice GUI and HMI.

Also, you should make ALL your boards available from many famous distributors such as digikey, mouser, .... etc. So one can buy his parts and your board from the same source.

I was interested in the Sakura board more since it is so cheap, I want to start with ARM MCUs and always liked Renesas ones but the boards were pricey and maybe not suitable for a beginner. Instead, one can buy STM32-discovery board for 20$ and learn ARM with it.

Plus, learning via Sakura is like learning AVR through Arduino, which is not really learning AVR. So eventually one needs to learn via the expensive boards right?

I appreciate your response and maybe you can suggest something for new learners of ARM MCUs like me.

thanks

what software can we use to make professional GUIs using Renesas boards? << A *FREE* software that is, since other than that will be pointless.

This was my problem long time ago and couldn't find a solution for it. I like the gadgets but there are fundamental problems explained in my previous post. I hope this helps you help us xD.

Dear Vegeta,

Thank you for your response.
Luckily, all gadget renesas using Cloud based IDE and graphical programming.

i request you to kindly check our community and user forum on renesasrulz.com.
The contest was very successful in India and most of students & hobbyist community participated in it.
I am glad to share we had over 600+ registrations for contest in India and only 150 got selected for free boards.

There are videos and articles posted by GR PEACH used on youtube. I request you to have a look.
The board is distributed free of cost, the IDE is cloud based, all you need is a computed and internet.

http://electronicsforu.com/technology-trends/news/peach-board-developers
is an article in most famous media called Electronics For you.

Please feel free for seeking technical support from our community.

I asked about how to design a GUI? I mean the software used for these boards and Renesas in general.

I'm in charge Gadget Renesas boards. Thank you for your frank opinion. I'm appriciated with that.
Anyway, GUI you mean is like LCD pannel following sample ?

Dear Yuuki Okamiya-san,

I meant something like this: http://touchgfx.com/

A TFT screen with a graphical user interface (GUI) on it and controlled by the microcontroller. It must have a designer software to create the GUI, then make code for it. What are your free options for Renesas and GR-PEACH?

I'm sorry, but free software for GUI as you mentioned is nothing for GR-PEACH as of today. Below 2 example for graphic control are published.
https://developer.mbed.org/users/dkato/code/GR-PEACH_Digital_Signage/
https://developer.mbed.org/teams/Renesas/code/RGA_HelloWorld_4_3inch/

The below starterkit provides GUI library as you mentioned, but that is necessary to perchase separately to try.

Thanks for your reply.

I guess a powerful board like this must have such a software because it is what this board is supposed to do. You can support cheap version or free ones online.

So if someone wants to make his own GUI and maybe for a small commercial product using your RZ series, what should he use?
