Interestingly enough, the top 3 all had a non-zero number of votes from these profiles.

Hmm... Very interesting. I wish I still had a beard to rub... but hmm....  ::)

Quite a bunch of EEVBlog forum members went through the hassle to setup a Facebook account to support Carlos, because they hadn't had one before. These freshly created virgin accounts may very well got falsely flagged as fakes, although they were not...  :-//

But all the criticism aside, this was hands down the most impressive giveaway I've ever witnessed, truly stunning. Only to think about all these wonderful shiny new scopes, given away for free, blows my mind... I really hope it was as much a success to Keysight as it was a pleasure for us to participate, because if it was, there's hope it will be repeated next year  :-+

How would you know a good Facebook profile?  For example I had never used Facebook, but set up an account just to vote.

Play nice, now. Even though the bulk of the ineligible voter profiles was for one entrant in particular, there was actually nothing in the T&Cs about voting services. An oversight on our part, of course. Even though we got a lot of flack for using Facebook, I'm glad we did. We were able to check a lot of profiles and see that there were actually a lot of valid votes and profiles. Or, at least, it was disguised well enough to fool us.  Looking at the votes, it was very clear which profiles were valid and which weren't.

Interestingly enough, the top 3 all had a non-zero number of votes from these profiles.

We learned a lot by running this contest, and we really appreciate all of your feedback and support.  If you hadn't rallied around Carlos (rx8pilot), we wouldn't have given him a scope.

Most "artificial votes" you buy - you get an option to random place votes to other participants to mask your own - so you buy 1000 votes - and 100-200 are "randomly" placed on other contestants. And not even FB can detect if they are real profiles or not. They are profiles with daily updates - created by "random" copying someone else "vetted" updates.

I own a graphics outsourcing company where my production teams are in Asia - and many of their not-so-educated family members work in "booster centrals" where you can get "anything" done from Blackhat SEO to advanced FB clicks from all over the world. So can you detect vote fraud - yes from the stupid companies - but not from the smart ones.....

With an average daily salary of (max) $1 PER DAY for boosters - they can handle a lot of clicks, votes or even "write" product reviews. Review texts are bought in bulk - with semi open-ended language - so a single text can by machine be turned into maybe 600-800 permutations - they just need to press "randomize"and voila - a new review text.

Other peoples FB updates are picked up via API's - and using word permutations - put in a queue to update their own XXXX number of FB accounts. So just 1 click to post an update even with a "random - but situation specific" picture - in the native language of the profile they are posting to. Some even have their own VPN & proxy servers setup in the US/Europe & Asia to show "the right" country based IP... Mega business for those who like making money like that.

And btw. - in case you was wondering - we do pay a lot more then $1 per day *G* - but most of our guys are Autodesk trained. But still cheaper than a western person doing the same (and westerners quickly get bored doing it) - and we are audited by some huge brand names (our customers) on a random annual basis to ensure safe working conditions, pay and healthcare and so on. So we are of course not the cheapest....

So that is why I do not trust most product reviews - apart from if Dave makes them :) They have not built a Dave Simulator out there yet.

:phew: great video Daniel and I agree, you (keysight) did the best you could with the situation and I just hope Nilu's 6000x gets sent with some decent probes as well or that 100mhz SMPS signal is going to look like absolute shite  :palm:

But WOW, Keysight just won a million points in my book and I'm sure many others. I had a feeling they would "take care" of Carlos but not on that scale. If any keysight high ups are watching, your man Daniel made 100% the right choice and you have an entire website here of EE specialists that aren't going to forget what Keysight did today

I should be at NAB at a very secret DIT unicorn party getting drunk with Carlos but alas health issues currently have me home in the midwest so I am celebrating with my best jazz hands downing some ramen before I take another 12 hour nap

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say thank god this is finally over for now though  :scared:

I just see this video now ... way too late for the actual vote of course.

But I wanted to write here, to tell you that your video was really nice!

I really have a lot of respect for engineers that take up all the disciplines in their business, including public relations and project management.

What really striked me most in your video, is your passion and your honesty!
You can really see that you like the stuff you are working on, and you seem so honest person!
In Swedish there is an expression "glimten i ögon". This expression is really suitable to your video :)

I am happy that you got the scope! Well deserved!
Hope it is an enabler for your business, and that it will allow you to take up many new cool FPGA projects!

Are you looking into the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ architecture?
What about High-Level Synthesis? Are you a strong believer of "All-in-C" based design? I am! :)

Good luck with your new scope! I am sure you will have a lot of fun in learning and experimenting!

They said they'd take care of you, but a loaded 6000x is above and beyond

So did Nilu actually win the contest?

Yes, Nilu is the official winner.  Anything else we gave away was not part of the contest.

Class act all around.  Congrats to Carlos. :)    You (and hopefully Nilu) will find that owning the best tools compels you to take your own work to the next level.

Congratulations to the winner and to Carlos! Thanks to Daniel for making the case to help a one-man-band company like several of us.

How would you know a good Facebook profile?  For example I had never used Facebook, but set up an account just to vote.
If it was a freshly created new account with no history of interaction with other accounts it may very well be suspicious. Just guessing  :-//

So if they use Facebook voting in the future, people here who create an account so that they can vote probably should post something to indicate that this is why the account was created.  Just write a quick note saying you signed up on Facebook to participate in the contest voting.  Put a like on the EEVBlog page.  Post a link to your profile on the forum here, so someone checking vote validity can see that you have a history here even if you don't on Facebook.

Thanks Daniel for all the work you put into the contest.  Congrats, Carlos.  :-+

And what an amazing move my Keysight and Daniel.

I feel dirty just setting up a FB account.  I don't want to do anything with it.  The bloody thing was sending me emails asking if I knew my wife, hopefully I have managed to stop that.
