Your favorite mechanical / machining forum?
« on: August 29, 2019, 11:03:15 am »
Usenet is dying and my favorite mechanical and machining groups are pretty much dead.

What are some good metal and plastic machining forums to hang out in? Maybe groups that cover a bit of everything, some milling, turning and a bit of cnc as well as discussions on topics like materials and adhesives.

I'd hoped eventually a subforum would be created here on eevBlog but it hasn't.   :-[

Got any favorite groups?

That looks good Xmetal.

It reminded me of https://www.woodworkforums.com/

Despite its name it has some good metlworhing and CNC router building threads.

Anyone got any others?

A couple that may be of interest...

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/uk.rec.models.engineering

and one associated with the UK's 'Model Engineer' and 'Model Engineers Workshop' magazines (possibly the better of the two)...

The best home shop machining forum I know is, not suprisingly :) http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net Even thought the focus is on home shops, the demographics include many professional machinists as well.

A forum more geared towards professional machinists is https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/ These guys tends to scoff at questions that are about hobbyist stuff, but still in both of these forums, the amount of knowledge and experience is HUGE.

Seconding both of those forums. Also noteworthy:

Lots of good links here. Thanks.

I wonder if DLJ will ever add a machining / fabrication / metal working category. I reckon it would be popular.
