Trademarks and Copyright on PCBs
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:30:23 pm »
Hi all,

Just a quick question to confirm my understanding of trademark and copyright symbols...

* Can I place a manufacturers registered trademark logo on one of my PCB designs? (Silkscreen). This is purely to show that the board supports those said devices...

Regards,

Dave

Probably not without their permission and especially not if it might mislead people into thinking they were buying a product by said manufacturer.

If in doubt ask the manufacturer directly. Don't wait to be sued.

A manufacturers trademark logo is copywrite of the manufacturer. They own it. If you wanted to use it you would have to contact them and ask - don't be suprised if they say no, or impose really horrible conditions.

Technically, no, you can't do that.
Generally speaking though the chip makers don't mind the major players putting their logo on the likes of a development/demo board that use their chips. But I think it would be prudent to ask for permission first.

Thanks all. This has confirmed my suspicions, I think I will steer clear just to be on the safe side.
