Maybe some of them, but not all of them. After sixty+ years of existence, I still believe that 99.9% of people are fundamentally striving for good.
Sadomasochism cannot be placed on good-evil axis. It's a natural trait in human, some are more sadistic and some more masochistic than others, some are both, some not much either. It's not against "striving for good".
I feel pity for those who did not figure out early it's about a S&M game and genuinely tried to offer their help thinking it would have some effect, wasting a lot of time/effort/money. Then again, maybe their motives were also self-centered, like compensating for something. Otherwise than those who were fooled, it's a game where both parties (in this case content producer and those who "help") get some kind of emotional reward out of it. And exactly because they do, they don't want the game to end.
I have learned to stop trying to meddle with people I know only from online. Some pretty bad experiences. There is a reason why they are in constant need of help. The reason is they don't want their problems to be solved, nor want they solve those themselves.
Mentally/physically very challenged people struggling and needing constant help is one thing, but clearly intelligent and capable people are well able to help themselves if they so wish.
Concentrate on your close ones. It is very likely someone closer to you than some random stranger on the internets needs your help.
