Many people prefer not to, because they want to support sites such as this. I know it's possible to enable adverts Not everyone uses Adblock. Many people prefer not to, because they want to support sites such as this. I

Even though it doesn't show in my title I am actually an Eevblog supporter for some years through Patreon and I did send gnif a little for this (believing at first it was Gnif who help set the ones above that flash to help pay for the site) and one kept on opening tabs in the background.

I don't use it to block adverts primarily
I will block anything regardless if it is an advert or not it is set in a fixed position if it can be hidden without a problem when it steps out of line, interferes and cause me distraction.

I remove the filter lists that comes with adblock/ublock, I think it was Easylist I remove but find I have turn off "Show acceptable ads" or the things like Google suggest would still show up and ignore some of the blocklist.

I use it to block (when possible):
Suggestions/predictions
Uncloseable fixed/sticky navigation toolbars/widgets/anything
Dimming overlays
Animated/placeholder skeletons
Animated/preloading/fake loading spinners
Anything that flashing and cause distraction

I only started using Adblock at first to hide the Google suggest elements and then the fixed toolbars starting from Ebay and Amazon.

Many years before that  I did use to block certain advertisers on the firewall that I found were associated and hosted malware through dodgy advertising supported stuff like "free" games (from my customers things) and once installed would install a lot of other stuff in the background.

I only use one blocklist and that is my own for the above that I posted on Pastebin.
Actually sometimes I use the Fanboys social list that hides the hover popups things with the social networking widgets.

My speculation is Dave wants to increase the "engagement" and to bring new users, so only good intents, yet I strongly believe the TikTok/Onlyfans/Facebook kind of platform engagement studies and recipes does not apply well to the EEVblog crowd.  I mean not well for the long term.  Might increase the numbers for this year, but at the cost of turning the forum into trash in 5 years.

I always find it funny how people jump to the most elaborate conclusions.
I explained in the other thread.

Why not display the thanked/posts ratio instead.

+1 to Dave for trying something. and +2 for not having so much ego that he isn't prepared to abandon an idea.

I've thanked that post :)

Better, but not good. It could - and would - still be gamed, or distorted by users such as woodz/trollz. Those that have been around a while will know which user I have in mind.

Apart from that, some of the posts I write turn out to be helpful or correct, but unfortunately others are unhelpful or wrong. Thanking me rather than the post is misleading.

To achieve what, exactly?

I'm not saying the idea is good or bad, just a change should have a clear purpose - and achieve that purpose.
