Pocket beagle and the phy issue
« on: October 05, 2018, 06:00:09 pm »
Does anybody know if the pocket beagle has the same PHY issue the beaglebone black did or is it not a problem on that board? Also any other things I should know about pocket beagle? Picking a board for a small scale deployment or a telemetry system using as much off the shelf as I can. Probably using it with a hologram Nova or equivalent.

The PocketBeagle doesn't have built-in Ethernet. The SoC has an Ethernet MAC but it isn't brought out to any of the PocketBeagle I/O pins so you can't connect a PHY. The mikroBus Click boards they recommend are a Microchip MAC+PHY which only does 10BASE-T or a WIZnet MAC+PHY that does 10/100BASE-T but implements its own TCP/IP stack. Both are SPI connected.

Ok. For simplicity I may stay Radpberry pi as all we have to do is plug in Ethernet, find Wi-Fi, or use a usb cell modem to find internet.
