Well, I don't know if there are people affected or that will be affected by this Hurricane but if yes, keep yourself and your families safe.

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?

Before believing hysterical media hype, always check weather sites like
  https://www.ventusky.com/?p=29.56;-92.65;8&l=wind-10m
  https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-89.66,31.82,3000/loc=-92.821,29.488

For one thing, the media like to quote max wind speeds for at least 1000m up, where the wind is _much_ faster than at ground level. Currently the max ground level wind speed is about 90 MPH.

I personally use the website https://www.cyclocane.com/ daily, since here in Southern Asia Typhoons are common most of the year, specially between May and September, so each and everyday I'm checking it for updates of possible storm formations. Since it also aggregates the official warnings and reports from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center it's always the official without the media hype.

Laura at landfall had 150 mph wind speed which ties for #5 all time worst. This one seems to be going a little more north than usual according to predictions and probably won't affect me much. I had never been in a hurricane until Katrina and I'm perfectly fine with never seeing another one.
