Why did Australians hide these from the rest of the world?

http://www.arnotts.com/products/tim-tam/

Just found a package randomly at my supermarket and I ate a lot more than I wanted! Never heard of these.

We hid them as we believe the rest of the world is not ready to do the Tim Tam Slam.

Tim Tams are not exactly obscure. I've bought them in convenience stores in out of the way spots in China.

Chocolate is a harmful drug like ethanol, cigarettes or heroine. As a straight edge NS I abhor people who consume it.

Always funny when people outside of AUS & NZ discover TimTams and other biscuits.
Quite common for Americans visiting NZ to go nuts over how good they are.

Also, Lewis Road Creamery Chocolate Milk in New Zealand has ruined peoples lives.
After trying it and returning back home no other chocolate milk tastes good any more.

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?
    • It's not really a Blog

So you didn't eat the entire packet?
Well you will next time.

I exclusively eat:

The day after valentines day and mothers day, when they are at half price, I go to all the supermarkets in my city to buy out all the stock, something like 1-2k$ worth for a year supply...

I've been banned from buying them from a number of supermarkets when they are on special.

I don't socialize so it's not a problem for me. I prefer to spend my days alone on a shooting range or doing extreme sports.

What are you doing on a forum with a bunch of people you abhor then? The entire purpose of this place is to socialize and exchange information.

A forum does keep the riff raff at a good distance. :)

Chocolate a drug? LOL

Shocking. But it's true.

"the term is mostly used loosely or humorously to describe a person who is inordinately fond of chocolate"

The article goes on to say that other foods containing sugar or fats causes similar cravings, so in that sense virtually any food could be considered a "drug" in that we are wired to crave them. Live in a very cold place like the arctic and you will crave fat, live in a hot tropical place and you will probably crave fruits, that doesn't mean these are drugs. You don't get a buzz from eating a chocolate bar and you don't suffer physical withdrawals if you suddenly quit eating chocolate. Comparing it to heroin is frankly the stupidest thing I've heard in weeks, I've seen people detox from heroin and there's no un-seeing that.

Yes, cocoa is a drug, but there's hardly any of the psychoactive substances in most chocolate confectionery items. To get serious amounts of it, you need really dark, bitter chocolate with >75% cocoa content. And anyone comparing it to heroin must be taking something much stronger.  :palm:

Oh and cigarettes are only harmful because of all of the tar and nasty chemicals present in the smoke. Pure nicotine cause a similar level of harm as caffeine, so not good, but it doesn't cause cancer. Don't listen to all the BS propaganda about ecigs pushed by the tobacco companies.

Read on.

In addition to sugar and fat, chocolate contains several substances that can make it feel "addictive". These include tryptophan, an essential amino acid that is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in regulating moods; high serotonin levels can produce feelings of elation. Another is phenylethylamine, a neurotransmitter from which amphetamine is derived; phenylethylamine is nicknamed "chocolate amphetamine" and can cause feelings of excitement and attraction. Chocolate also contains caffeine.

And anyone comparing it to heroin must be taking something much stronger.  :palm:

Does fennel count?

I'm not a fan of those in general. The dark chocolate ones are nice, but the plain/ordinary ones aren't great.

Uh huh. Unless you only buy high-profile very dark chocolate, most of what is contained in "chocolate" is just sugar and fat and very little cocoa...
