Cassini spacecraft's end of mission Friday 15th September 2017
« on: September 12, 2017, 03:57:12 am »
After nearly 20 years in space, Cassini will be plunging into Saturn's atmosphere this Friday. The Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex will be tracking Cassini's final 9 hours where loss of signal is expected about 1155H 15/09/2017 UTC. Earlier today, Cassini's RADAR was switched off. The following instruments will remain on during the final plunge:
  • Gas Spectrometer & Magnetosphere Imager
  • IR & UV Spectrometers
  • Dust Analyser
  • Magnetometer
  • Radio & Plasma Wave Antennas
  • Radio Science

We should receive the final radio signals back at Earth about 1 hour and 42 minutes after transmission stops from Saturn.

Cassini is gone. For those who still want to go back and watch, the live feed allows you to "rewind"
