Anyone here decapsulate?
« on: January 10, 2019, 11:40:09 pm »
Just curious if anyone has the ability to decapsulate IC's or have done it successfully.

I have a few old LED's and I'd like to sacrifice a few to get a good look at their insides (they are in frosty red epoxy.)

Can LED epoxy be chemically removed like IC epoxies?

Much easier.
The LED are often encapsulated in PMMA.
And PMMA can be easily dissolved using acetone.

And BTW: Yes, I'm trying to decapsulate (dead) IC mechanically.
Just with a file (rasper).
Last microns can be scrub away with something much softer (wood, plastic, fingernail).
