Audiophoolery rubbish ($147 power socket)
« on: October 27, 2009, 11:10:28 am »
Just came across this link for an "Audio Grade" power socket.
Only $147. For one!

BTW, the "Audio Grade" term is trademarked. Spare me.

I have a fine tuned tube amp. based system. My Ac cords already incorporate Wattgate plugs. I used this one to replace the Hospital grade one I was using in the wall. This new plug truly redefined the experience from listening my sound system. I get more deeper base and also additional details in the overall spectrum.

If your system is already fine tuned, it will make a significant improvement.

Ahhhhh! The stupid, it hurts!

I'm just waiting for a EE smart lawyer to buy this for the sole purpose of suing the manufacturer.

Any noise should be fixed by proper power supply design the socket has nothing to do with it.

Also i opened up a Marshall amp and replaced a capacitor but I found something i didn't expect... tubes, YES TUBES!!! now the transistor was invented in the 40's made a standard in the 70's and i was born in the late 80's so this was my first time ever seeing tubes. Do tubes provide better signel quality then transistors or does this fall into the audiophool industry. because i've taken apart cheaper amps and they were all transistors. and Marshall is a well known brand

I wouldn't mind seeing a myth-busters episode about Audiophoolery

Tubes do have different kind characteristics than transistors and it will affect the sound. Audio amps with tubes are also usually quite different topology wise (they usually have an output transformer to impedance match the load) which will also affect the sound of the amp. I wouldn't say tubes are "audiophool" stuff really, they just provide different kind of sound (like, in a measurable way  ;)) and some people like it I guess. But the difference is quite audible.

Power socket is total bs.

Imagine that after that overpriced power cable and socket they huge banks of capacitors to filter everything and they still can hear the difference... And don't forget about that wire in the wall and miles of wiring to nearest power plant. I think they also hear Martians and that Russian Sputnik when they don't have their aluminum foil hat :D

This is Monster cable taken to whole another level :D

Tubes are actually good and not audiophile voodoo. They sound different and most important regular people can hear that :D

I think tubes can be/are voodoo, a lot of people attribute the sound to the tube, where its often the transformers or the design of the circuit itself, and often people compare a tube setup with a cheap electronic setup. But most of the time they just think its better, and its usually because they're used to hearing bad solid state/digital because there is a plethora of them, people go on about it all the time , then listen to most of their music on a piece of junk like the ipod.
