What’s Going On With Fry’s?
« on: August 21, 2020, 02:41:37 am »
It’s been almost a year now since Fry’s stores depleted almost all of their inventory leaving nothing but bare shelves, yet the stores are still open with the same inventory situation.

How are they still in business with virtually nothing to sell? A year ago they said they were moving to a new business model, but there’s been no sign of anything changing.

Getting out of leases is difficult.

I've heard that they own most of their Bay Area locations, so leases are not relevant. I don't know if that's the case with their stores in other areas.

I never understand the excessive, gratuitous over-use of "facepalm" on this forum - it's SO rude - no need! People are SO cavalier with their use of snooty replies. Can no one function without almost putting people down? Wow...

Thats such a shame.. I had bought so much of the older stuff I have there.

It was great to be able to see all that stuff, I bought stuff that I never would have known about just from seeing it in those absolutely huge stores. And I mean really really huge, some of them. Also, they had tos of junk food items and they were open late at night. So you could go in there at 11 at night and get all the geeky stuff you needed. It was great. One thing, though, they had very few staff, so it was difficult to get help, but that was their business model.

It was all out so often you could play around with things.

Their stores must be worth billions, alone, such huge pieces of real estate in one of the most expensive housing markets in the US.

Imagine how much housing could be built on them. And they really really need it. Young families especially. the cost is driving people literally >100 miles away. Imagine getting up at 4:30 every morning to get to work by 8.
