The Konica Minolta CS-1000A came in, the seller included an old cal certificate too (the traceability diagram is neat).

Did a quick sanity check with an incandescent torch and it read CCT = 3328K, Duv +0.0003. Good enough for me, the man with only one clock knows exactly what time it is. The measurements are outrageously stable to the point where I think I can easily measure the tint shift as a LED heats up, I shouldn't be surprised as the chromaticity repeatability spec is xy 0.0002.

I like the Nescafe lens cap, the kind seller tried to find something that fit instead of just shipping it out naked hahaha.

Now I can't seem to get serial working with an FTDI USB serial cable, might be time for a teardown soon...

Oh nice I like the 1960s styling. Is it from the 1960s? Schematics seem to show simple RTL chips being used, big 1960s "tell" for me.

I found a BASF CrO2 portable recorder while thrifting/hoarding. I didn't know BASF made equipment too. It's a nice-looking shelf display. I love that perforated metal "coffee filter" speaker grille and the BASF logo.

Beats me, CC doesn't stand for Coco Chanel, I know that, but lots of TASCAM models start with CC these days, but my unit is like 50 years old.

There's no information on the back, just "JAPAN". Inside there are no brand logos either, except for "CC".

It is very well built, big metal flywheel, thick chassis plate, etc but the belts are all bad, and it looks like a nightmare to replace them. I won't be taking it apart (sorry Dave).

A USB load, an adapter set for SMA and a USB cable tester arrived today.
The tester is simple, but it works very well.
Over the years, I have accumulated umpteen USB cables of various types.
I tried it briefly and promptly found a defective cable.
Then I tested the small cables with micro USB, which are either with data transmission or only designed as power cables.
And I also found what I was looking for.
I am thrilled.

Several parts on my unit have a datecode of the mid 1980s, but indeed the design is much older than that - the manual that came with the unit has a date of Oct 1968.

If you scroll to timestamp 10:54 of my video, you will see the digital logic is RTL and DTL and entirely built with discrete transistors, diodes and resistors, not ICs.

This unit was "New In Box" and it was probably never used in a permanent capacity before - all the cables were still in their original harnesses and neatly tucked inside the unit. Perhaps this was only powered on for a quick test. Albeit not as useful as in the past, it is still a rare gem!

BTW, in the video I link to a much better copy of the manual scanned by me.

That's also what I thought, went round looking for pictures of Grundig, ITT, Shaub-Lorenz, Uher, Universum cassette recorders didn't find anything close.

So it may be a Matsushita job, the style is kinda similar. They even got rebrands under the Schneider name over here (before Schneider became part of Philips).

I bought a new impact hammer drill:

Amazon had a great deal for a returned one with slightly damaged packaging.

Last weekend my 25 year old (consumer) Bosch died while using a diamond core drilling bit to drill a few holes in the floor of the shed (yes, also solid concrete). When the lights went out and a smell emerged I knew it was time for a new hammer drill. The Bosch was never good at continuous use; at ran quite hot after a while. After looking at some reviews and remarks, I choose the Makita HR2631 as an entry level professional tool to at least get a more durable drill compared to the Bosch. The HR2631 also features a detachable head so an SDS+ or regular chuck (included) can be fitted. Let's see how this one holds up.

Don't restrict yourself to just using it as a hammer drill,they also do a great job of drilling most materials that normal drills struggle with,32mm holes in stainless? no problemo.Plus the added fun of being able to fit chisel bits for, well chiseling .2 little tips if they aint mentioned in the instructions,put a dab of grease on the slots on the sds drill bits every so often ,and don't use hammer with the chuck fitted.

That is the nice thing about Makita; drawings are easy to find and parts easy to buy. I bought a second hand Makita reciprocating saw a couple of years ago but it was a bit more worn than I expected. By replacing some parts, it is good as new and it didn't cost a lot.
