Frustration free....FAIL!

 So it's nice Amazon will deliver on a Sunday, now I can more easily play around with my Arduinos instead of watching hand egg. Just some longer USB cables, since I had none laying around.
 First is the outer cardboard. Before ripping into it, I noticed the pull to open tab - you know, the ones Dave misses a lot in Mailbag, though sometimes I think it's on purpose so he can whip out the big knife. Well, the thing tears off halfway across. FAIL #1. Good pull on the opening ripped it right open, so not too bad. Inside, two small envelopes, each with a cable. And an Amazon label "Certified frustration free packaging". First one, tears open pretty easily, no problem. Second one - flap just shreds, envelope still sealed. FAIL #2. So I whip out my trusty knife (not as big as Dave's - only an Aussie can safely wield such a large knife) and sliced it open.

 That's my rant for the day.

To be fair it is much better than those super hard to open transparent plastic containers. With reinforced edges. Whoever designed and approved those is a total moron. They are impossible to open without a hefty knife and some luck.

They are horrible things, I bet quite a lot of people have injured themselves opening them with knives etc.

 Yes, those things should be outlawed, and whoever invented it executed by thousands of cuts from the sharp edges of his wonderful packing. The test lead set I bought the other day came in one of those horrible things. First thing I've gotten in a while that used that crap.

Ah, yes clamshell packaging. The plastic type with heat sealed edges are the absolute worst. I have actually damaged the item inside while trying to get them open.

Completely coincidentally I bought some USB cables (AmazonBasics) from Amazon this weekend, for some things including these, they even arrive same day! I was luckier, they were simply in a padded jiffy bag, that was it.

And yes, the sealed clamshell design I am sure is designed to psycholgically make you less likely to return an item due to damaged packaging.

there useless for cutting a  line there meant for cutting boards on paper for craft type stuff.

All you need is a wooden block to cut on and Dave's big knife.  After you've trimmed off two edges of the package (not the one with the hanging loop) heat-sealed clamshells open quite easily.  If the scissors shown are sharp and in good condition, they may even be up for the job, just start at a corner and trim off the edge.

Mistakes *NOT* to make:  Buying anything in a sealed clamshell at the airport and expecting to be able to get it open on the flight!

I think the intended way of opening them is to cut it with a pair of scissors, which are level with the package. So you open it by cutting the entire length, just above the welding. It worked for me most of the times.
I think it is still better than the first generation nexus 7. That was so thigh packed, the tablet jumped out of the box to the ground, if you tried opening it upside up.

I got mine from a yard sale.  I was with a friend who was a retired EMT and he said they are great for cutting anything and can cut a penny in half.  He then proved it.  That was the best dollar I ever spent.
