UPS: Package damaged in transit
« on: July 25, 2013, 02:28:55 pm »
Hello to everyone!

A few days ago I've order components from Farnell and I was expecting the package to be at my door yesterday morning.
I haven't received anything and I was sure that I will get them today. But nothing happened...

So, I decide that after the work I will have a look at the UPS tracking. The result? PACKAGE DAMAGED IN TRANSIT ! ! ! !
WTF UPS ? ? ? ?

And when you are expecting to inform me about that? Its already two days now with the package to be at the same location and still the status PACKAGE DAMAGED IN TRANSIT

I have no info from Farnell, that by the way in the order status are saying Order Complete
And I have no info fro UPS either! And yes, both of them they have my mail address and my phone number

What I have to do about that? Do I have to blame Farnell and ask for full refund or to resent me the package from the beginning?
I have to blame the stupid UPS delivery? I will get my package sooner or later or what?

Contact Farnell customer service. They employ people to resolve these issues.

I've send a mail to Farnell an hour before I've post this message! Hopefully I will get an answer soon!

I've call UPS as well and they told me that those things are happening (with a girl voice attitude like damaged packages are an extremely natural think - don't worry if you are unable to do your work tomorrow - who gives a s@@t) and they are trying to find a solution. Please call again on Monday morning! What!!!!????!!!!???!!!??????

And don't waste your time with UPS.  :--

They give a facking fart. From their point of view the receiver of a package is a nuisance. They'd rather not have anything to do with the receiver. Like so many couriers they believe the sender is their customer which they have to coddle up to. And they forget that it is ultimately the receiver  paying for the shipping when buying online .

UPS moves stuff from Digi-Key and into my hands (in Norway!), in about 41 hours. That's damned impressive in my book. I've also experienced them going through the trouble of tracking me down on the streets to get a package into my hands, rather than just defer delivery to another day.

I understand you're annoyed they didn't call - as would I be, they should have - but I suspect it could happen with any carrier.

Stuff like that often requires that people both think and take responsability, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of either going around these days.

(Last paragraph more of a sigh at the world these days, than directed at anyone in particulair)

This is unfortunately dead accurate.

You want to be dealing with Farnell. UPS doesn't give half a shit about you or your package and you'll only get more pissed off if you try talking to them.

You talk to Farnell and Farnell talks to UPS. That's how it works.

i had no problem with ups delivery from farnell hell they even packed the bigger items in separate packaging box, none of them was damaged, the guy who get them out of the ups truck handled them like it was made from glass or similar.

It seems more like "package destroyed in transit" to me. If damaged it should still show up...

UPS are one of the better ones. Our warehouse ships with all the couriers and have learned the hard way exactly what to send with which courier. As far as damage goes, all I can say is avoid Fedex.

UPS, Citylink and APC all have a very low incidence of damage for average parcels.

Yes, everybody seems to complain about UPS, but I have never had a single bad experience with them. I've been pretty lucky with USPS as well. FedEx? Plenty.

I agree,  I personally have daily packages from UPS fedex and DHL.  It does OCCASIONALLY happen, its rare, however it does happen.  When my packages are "Damaged in transit" I wish they were still delivered, to let ME decide whether it is truly damaged.  a lot of the time, it is just the container, and the product is fine.

OR

Possibly another way of "Hey a random package!,  ill keep it as a constellation prize!"

Hope it works out for you, Farnell is pretty good about these things.  sorry about your weekend though :(

I've been shipping long enough to tell horror stories about all three.

You can't treat large companies as if they're a single entity, except perhaps when it comes to actual company policy. You've got this office and that warehouse and this manager and that employee. Experiences are going to be hit and miss.

At the last place I lived, I always got the same braindead bitch at the UPS drop-off counter who couldn't understand the purpose of a proof of drop-off receipt and refused to give me one. It only took me three visits to learn not to go there anymore, though I often didn't have a choice. Well, now I live elsewhere, and so far the UPS warehouse here has been marvelous. I barely have to say a word; it's as if they know how to do their job. It's the very definition of a night and day difference to the warehouse at the last place I lived.

Conflicting reports cease to be conflicting when you realize that you can't expect different people to behave similarly simply because their paycheck comes from the same account. Although, having said that, I don't think there are too many reports of people having a good experience with the customer service of any courier in the event that a problem arises in receipt of a package. It does actually seem to be company policy that the recipient is NOT the customer - the sender is.

Yeah, definitely the sender is the client. We're lucky, our logistics manager just gets on the phone and kicks ass. He's a moody sod at times, but great for sorting out 'issues'.

Depends on the company employees a lot, and as I do work a lot with courier firms at work I know where the offices are, and which ones to use for which areas. Worst was the late unlamented PX express, run by the railways. There you lost 50% of the stuff in transit, but they were fast in giving you a notice it was lost, refunding you the shipping charge and as well the insurance was 1% of value, and they paid out the next day. We sent a lot of stuff that way, it was a profitable courier, we were actually making more money from them than what we were paying them. No wonder they were closed after 2 years of operation, as they were running at a loss that even was bad for Spoornet ( the holding company) in cost terms.

I knew some one whose entire business was buying lost goods from a transport company. If I remember rightly it was Palletline, any way they were their own insurer and any delivery that was not made on time was either labeled lost or damaged and not delivered at all it would then all end up at a central warehouse where they would then sell it all off to the highest bidder, and this chap I knew would buy the stuff and then resell it. The strange thing is was the size of the things that got lost in transit, I bought from this chap a three meter metal shear that weighed over 2000 KG I got it at a good price as he had had this for some time and could not shift it quite literally I had to hire a specialist transport to get it to my works that cost as much as the shear itself and they only had to move it 9 miles, but how the hell does a transport company manage to get away with saying they have lost such an item when in fact all they had done was not made the delivery on time.

That is easy, it is cheaper to do the claim than to do the late delivery penalties with certain classes.

I wonder what it is about envelopes and boxes that drives people crazy?

buyer: I want my stuff .... NOW!

seller:get them their stuff NOW !

driver: I'll show you where you can stuff your stuff.

Bullshit. What you see in the videos is nothing short of criminal behavior. They are damaging other person's property. Willfully. I can reasonably expect that a company does not tolerate criminal behavior.

All I see is boxes getting tossed, do you have pictures of anything that was damaged?  ;)

Sometimes there are circumstances that are beyond people's control, this topic went from a package that got damaged in shipping to the delivery guy was a box stomping criminal.

I get packages all the time, in one piece and on time.

Also I didn't EXPECT anyone to accept my explanation, so I kind of figured there would be some negative backlash.

I receive the package today! The box was in pretty bad condition! Extremely dirty and all the corners were smashed like someone was using it like a chair!

The delivery boy informed me that the package is identified as "Damaged in Transit" (like I didn't know that already). I open the package with him in order to identify if I will accept it or not. He was very polite and was standing there (for something like 15 minutes) without any complain. All the internals were in perfect condition...  so, I put my acceptance signature!

Farnell, was amazing! They reply back to all my mails in less that 2 hours. They haven't specified 100% but more or less they told me that if the package is in bad condition and I don't want to accept it they will send me another one for free. Of course, the first one will go back with UPS... again without to pay anything.
