Y32NB50 mystery mosfet
« on: February 04, 2018, 04:02:52 am »
Back in the late 90's a place i worked at was going to use an ST Y32NB50 mosfet in the PFC stage of a power supply they were about to manufacture. It is rated 500V 0.12 ohms, 32A IIRC. Ended up using a Y34NB50 instead which has very similar specs but a shade faster I think, I brought home about 75 unwanted samples and of course I have only used two... Nowadays you look up this part on the web and there is only a handful of references and they are pretty much all on AliBaba and with no stock anyway. No datasheets either. What's the go with these things???

ST datasheet availability is notoriously horrible |O

But this one isn't that hard --- a STY34NB50 is a 34A 500V part, so take a guess at what a STY32NB50 would be...?

It's easy to see why they would stop marketing the 32A part --- I'm almost willing to bet the 34A part is the same die which they figured out would be fine with 34A, after producing a long run of them.

Okay, but why almost no references to them? Am I the only person on earth that has some?
