This is the bit that made me think this might not be another 'maybe before I die' technology.

Very cool, but I wonder how much the technology will cost. I have a bit of experience with optoelectronics and a good rule of thumb is that if it has the word "Photo" or "Optic" in it, its going to be expensive.
Don't blame me. I'm the mechanical engineer.
