No, some wags at the BBC decided to mutilate a perfectly good boat by welding the car body onto it. They read an interview with the car's designer where he stated he was inspired by yacht styling. So what if his car was a boat after all? British humour.

I absolutely agree w.r.t. the PT Cruiser. It's worth noting, however, that the PT Cruiser was just one of the (unfortunately) more popular cars that was the result of the "retro" fetish that gripped American car manufacturers in the early 2000s.
