BTW, an apple is a great way to wake up - it works better than coffee without the side effects.
Side effects? What side effects? *twitch twitch*

Heh, the only side effect I get is if I *don't* have a cup in the morning. Apparently it makes me cranky and irritable. Frankly I have no idea how she can differentiate that from my normal caffeinated state, but she can.

You don't need to spend anywhere near that much:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PY6NGZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This doesn't have a heated group head, so you do need to run a little hot water through before you make your coffee.
This doesn't have a dual boiler, but it does have a temperature switch, so all is good.

Basically if you want a decent coffee machine you need:
Espresso machine with group head and steam wand.
Two water temperatures. 77-80C for the coffee and 100C for the steam wand.
  Decent pressure.
Preheated group head OR enough patience to know that you must do this manually.
  A SUPPYL OF FILTERED WATER.

Ours is in an office of 20 people (well, engineers). It keeps up fine. It might struggle with a higher workload. I have an identical machine at home.

Spend the money on a decent burr grinder, don't be told that a blender style bladed chopper is a grinder. It isn't and it won't make good coffee either.

Not a coffee drinker myself, but out of all the machines we had, the only lone that is used consistently is a Technivorm Moccamaster. It's just a simple drip filter machine. Easy to use and clean, no bullshit features, not brutally expensive, just a drip machine that works well and lasts forever. Also it's made in the Netherlands, quite "refreshing" to see that they can still make a consumer product here instead of China.

Maybe it is time for a "shows us your coffee machine" tread.  :P
I have a saeco intelia evo and must admit I never used the steam or hot water function  :-//
But would recommend it to anyone else, its reliable, easy to maintain and most importantly it makes a half decent cup of coffee with minimum manual labor.  :-+

Look for a secondhand "prosumer" heat exchanger machine is probably the best advice, check out the for sale section of the coffeesnobs website there's always stuff going on sale there.

Out of the "appliance" grade machines the Breville dual boilers are probably the best option.

If you're not worried about steaming milk then a rancilio silvia as others have said is great, add a PID and its even better but as they share the same boiler for steaming and brewing they are a PITA if you want to steam more than a small jug of milk at a time

I don't have a photo on my phone at the moment but I've got these in the corner of my kitchen, it's small but basically a single boiler group out of a commercial machine with a separate steam boiler.

And this grinder, space is at a premium in my kitchen and the mazzer super jolly I had was not appreciated by wife so this is small and will also grind direct into the portafilter which is handy when juggling breakfast duties with two small children hanging off me.
