Yesterday I canceled my Amazon pre-order and ordered from CUP.  (I'm in the US and am a CUP author, so I get a discount.)  They claim it is available in the US now; that is, this is not a pre-order.  They have not yet told me the order has shipped, though.

OK, please take a step backwards for a moment because I need some help here. I might have glanced through the Art of Electronics a few times and I am aware of its legendary status among the electronics community, but what are 'X-Chapters'?

You will have seen many references in TAoE like 3x.11. They are references to the x-chapters.

AOR 'X-Chapters' would make a great TV mini-series.

Picture the authors doing the wiggling torch thing in some dusty cobweb filled secret underground bunker  :scared: :scared:

investigating and dissecting electronic equipment of unknown origin and purpose   ???  :o

Might get a couple of seasons out of it, or do a frugal production and wack it on Youtube  8)

I'll show myself to the door..  :palm:

For those who have received the book, how is the condition of the book itself. I am on my third one from Amazon, they just throw it in a box with no packing, corners all dog-eared, even after taking to CS about the lack of protection. I just ordered one from CUP, fingers crossed.

THIS!...

Stupid amazon.  Book was just sitting with the face against one side of the box with a single bubble pack on the other side.   Free to slide around at will, which it did.  Smashed corner.  That's just stupid, so I made them pay for it.  Free two day shipping of the replacement and a $10 credit.  The new one shows up packed exactly the same as the first, but luckily the hulk didn't deliver this one and it wasn't damaged.

Question.  When amazon is at fault for inadequately packaging the shipment, who eats the cost of replacement?

All of Amazon's customers, since these "costs of doing business" become part of their sales prices.

OK, just received it today. (And yes, Amazon shipped it in a small box with no padding, so there's a corner slightly smashed, but it's really not much - I won't return it - but yeah Amazon definitely sucks at shipping books.

Anyway, yeah the book is a nice addition to the AoE. Not disappointed. (Not too much anyway! ;D )

Here's a place you can get it... CUP's bookstore in Cambridge UK, with nice reflection of olde English architecture

Damn, nine months ago I could have had that argument about baggage allowances with the better half, as we visited Cambridge. :-P

Just saw this new thread activity now.

Ordered!

It's a really nice feeling to be able to order direct from the publisher without using amazon.

How did you do that, I can’t seem to order it from Cambridge Press from Aus?

Nice!

Would have been a bit of a trip for me just to get a book though - not that the trip wouldn't have been pleasant. ;D

I have got mine yesterday from Amazon, came in good condition, even though it was just in a normal envelope style carton, without padding. I guess if yours got smashed, it depends both on the warehouse which did the expedition (they don't pack the things the same way) and the Post not playing football with it.

I thought that the book will be more or less just a few "esoteric" topics that I won't really need so much, so I have ordered it just to complete the AoE book I have already. Man, was I wrong! Chock-full of useful info, especially for someone like me who isn't EE by trade.  :-+

Sorry, I couldn't resist...
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?
