I found EEVBlog on 80m radio band (3669.77 MHz)
« on: April 05, 2014, 01:37:29 pm »
Hello,

I like to listen radio but I don't have one. So I found this WebSDR service and now I listen it when ever I can.
So, while I was in search for something interesting I found this.

That's just Dave's internal thought monologue; he's forgotten to install the tin foil hat shield.

That would be the crossband 'missions' on 3670 kHz AM.  Done for many years by VK3ASE.  Various live contacts, recorded contacts and multimedia recordings.

Hours more stuff at:

Is that actually legal? Broadcasting something like that on HAM bands?

I am pretty sure that my ticket and rule book forbid transmitting anything unrelated to HAM traffic, especially anything resembling commercial broadcasts, but perhaps the rules are different elsewhere.

Depends on the licence authority in your ARU region. Ours allows music to be broadcast on amateur bands strictly for testing. So often you get a short music piece used for transmitter or repeater testing.

From the web site:

Actually most of it is very silly and serves to modulate the carrier to comply with regulations.
But I have to wonder if that's more of an excuse than the real reason for the broadcasts.

Our regulations have loosened a lot, although not all hams have read them recently.

Provided you don't transmit advertising, entertainment or cause interference to others there's not much you can't do.

Some things that were banned (eg connection to the phone system, transmitting music, unattended operation, third party traffic) are now allowed.

The 'crossband missions' have been an institution for more than 30 years and many people got their start in radio after listening to them on an AM radio tweaked to 1.8 MHz or VHF scanner.

I didn't specifically recognize the piece, but I thought I heard a second voice, so could it have been an AmpHour podcast?
It did sound like more early Dave though, he talked slower and did a lot more "uh" and "ah" which is more normal for someone who's not as comfortable with doing recordings of themselves. (Experience-wise I mean, not shyness)

Edit: Nope, that's definitely EEVblog #1, where he reviews iWoz.

Like I said, I have listen to that radio stream for about 30 minutes and before this recording I heard sound from video clip where Dave are talking about 5 years of EEVBlog (that was the last video post that day), and after recording there was audio from Dave's video posts too. So, maybe someone just put WHOLE EEVBlog videos on repeat :)  :-DD

Yes, I heard a second voice too and I thought that maybe that was radio station call sign or something similar...

And last thing, most important is that my goal was not to Dave find this guy and get him prosecuted or something... I just wanted to share this with you so that you know where Dave's voice can be hard too ;)
For me this was good discovery and I was happy and I won't be happy if David is mad about this.

Dave did you read this topic? :)

That or maybe some other station bleeding over.  At 80 meters though there could be skips from just about anywhere.

Someone left the vox switch on most likely or just accidentally keyed down. You can here 2 voices but really doesn't mean anything. Dave's voice then the other. The other might not even be able to hear dave's voice and there is also the unheard person. the other voice is in QSO with.  Isn't radio fun.
