A Burning CANDLE in Epoxy Resin

This was just entertaining to watch...........

My mind starts thinking RGB and controllers.

Very interesting and entertaining. The same techniques could be used to make custom-made connectors, standoffs, LED light diffusers and bezels.

It's actually pretty typical to just use a coin cell directly to an LED in $1 novelty devices.

However I would definitely want to have a proper driver circuit in this case to protect the LEDs. After all that effort, imagine blowing the LEDs... :palm:

Any microcontroller could do that. There are at least a few that are in little SOT packages.

There are LEDs with a controller built in that make them flicker like a candle. Flicker or candle LEDs is what they are called. A bit hard to get in SMD packages, they only seem to be widely available in 3 mm and 5 mm though hole variants.

just the thing for Dave's lab,  ... an idea for mail-bag.
or how about have a cheap fake iphone charger pcb explosion
with the flash and flames captured in resin,

Funny how the leds seem to light up under UV.

White LEDs actually emit blue or UV and use a phosphor to create the white light. No surprises there.  ;)

Here is mine....I think they were 2/US1$ and included a CR2032. The 'flicker' is not that candle-like, but they do flicker. Nothing in them but an LED, on-off switch and the battery.



If you look carefully, you can see the IC inside the LED

Here is another resin project. Very impressive but a FAIL (watch to the end). I really did like the way he used the fiber optics with LED shells.

BTW: lest anyone think I am being critical of the effort, I am aware that if I attempted the project the video would finish with me in the ER.

Those flickering LEDs used in the little tealight candles never really impressed me much, they don't look candle-like at all. An actual candle doesn't really flicker much, it will waver a bit and may flicker in a breeze but the LEDs look quite exaggerated. I think a small microcontroller could do much better, especially with this candle that has two LEDs wired independently.

No, they don't impress me at all either (as you could probably tell from my original statement).
