Stupid forum question?
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:55:04 pm »
Chaps, this is most likely a very very stupid question, but one thing that is driving me nuts about this forum is I can't find a page that shows the following:

1/ my subscribed topics
2/ and shows which ones have new posts
3/ and an icon alongside to jump straight to the 1st unread post

I'm so used to this on other forums and I'm finding it frustrating not being able to find this feature (assuming it exists) here at EEVblog forum.  :palm:

There is this https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unreadreplies/

But no way to jump to first unread as far as I know.

That's not the same as showing your subscribed topics, it's close but not quite.

It's all there but not like other forums.

For threads you have started you can find the list in your profile.
For Unread in any thread click New, but that only shows on the Boards and in Unread.

I don't know a way to subscribe to topics, but if you do a post to a topic, any new post to the topic will be in your "Show new replies to your post" link

2/ and shows which ones have new posts
If you click on "Show Unread Posts since last visit" or "Show new replies to your post", the threads with new posts will show the word "New" at the end.

3/ and an icon alongside to jump straight to the 1st unread post
Click on the word "New" and you go to the last oldest unread post.

All this applies to the PC/Classic interface. I don't use the mobile version even on my phone, so I don't know what features it has. Also you have to be logged in.

Cheers guys, just a bit of pain when even rubbish custom forums like whirlpool have a simple way to track subscribed topics.

Cheers, I don't use the mobile interface either, my 6s plus is big enough that the pc version works great.

I had been using tapatalk but hate the fact that it sends you a notification for every single dam post in every topic you've subscribed to so have now ditched it.

I used to think the same, Accurateshooter forum of which I am a member changed their forum from SMF (same as EEVblog) to XenForo ~1 year ago and for a start I liked it more particularly for unread replies as you click on a thread you've looked at and it took you to the first unread automatically. XenForo has some nice features but SMF works fine too, better in some ways especially Quotes where SMF gives a nice trail of where the discussion stems from whereas with XenForo you have to hunt back through the tread to get/find context as only one Quote is shown.  ???
