Any insights on India WPC certificates for GPS antennas?
« on: November 08, 2022, 08:11:33 am »
Hi all,

We develop various electronics products, some including GPS functionality. One of our key markets is India - and going forward, we will need to be able to export GPS antennas together with some of our products being shipped to India.

In this regard, we have been told that it is necessary to have a WPC certificate for the GPS antennas to avoid customs clearance issues.

An example GPS antenna we might export is the ANN-MS-0-005 from u-blox.

1) Fundamentally, we struggle to understand why a WPC certificate is required for GPS antennas. These are passive receivers, which do not radiate. For the same reason, no other countries seem to require a certificate for GPS antennas. Do any of you know if it is indeed correct that a WPC certificate is required for all GPS antennas, or are there some exceptions?

2) If a WPC certificate is required, do you know what specifically is "tested" on the GPS antenna? We would like to understand this to determine if e.g. the antenna linked above is likely to go through the test.

3) Do any of you know of existing GPS antennas similar to the ANN-MS-0-005 that can be sourced from EU which are already WPC certified?

Any insights on this would be really helpful!
