Does anyone actually buy these completely ridiculous smoke and spark filled images of nonsense?  If so, who, and WTF for?  Some of the more benign ones of people soldering motherboards while holding what we know to be the hot part of the iron or misusing probes I could see slipping by and going in to some sort of brochure or advert, but stuff like the last few?

I never knew there was that much fire stuffed into a small deflection yoke!

It looks to me that there is now an active market making these images just for the forum. :-)
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

TV series Glitch.  Soldering a brain. Admittedly it's a screen grab and not a stock image. Subtitles were from a promo reel and not actual script. But seemed oddly and amusingly appropriate.

I probably should add they were not soldering the brain. It was just a prop for a probe of brain activity.

This brain looks suspiciously like strawberry pie.

Yummy.

Was there not a thread about state standards needing to be restricted to those certified in Australia? Perhaps this is an example of what happens when the convicts not being allowed access to their state electrical standards guess wrong.

Strawberry pie? Meh.  Now, dutch apple pie is a different story.  Worth the diabetic coma.

For deflection yokurts?

I'm more interested in the fact the guy is touching the metal part of his screwdriver.  I guess the pot should be insulated.

Is that a ballast lightbulb?

He (?) is being extra safe with two ESD wrist straps, but I'm not sure that lying down is the most comfortable way to work on your PC.

That would be electrocauterization and is a real technique used in sensitive areas like when removing a brain tumor. They used a soldering iron as I suspect real cauterising tools area bit harder to find. Not completely accurate but sensible nonetheless. Not everything is ridiculous. :)

Not everything is ridiculous.

Actually, if you stare at anything long enough it does become ridiculous.

I don't have a problem so much with the ridiculous Stock photos. They are clearly meant to deliver a message or association for marketing purposes. For example, there are a ton of photos showing stethoscopes over motherboards, hard drives, keyboards, power supplies, etc... It is clearly "symbolic" in that a stethoscope is associated with "diagnostic tool" for the lay person who wouldn't know an electronics diagnostic tool if it hit them in the face.

I certainly don't think a lay person would actually believe the stethoscope was ACTUALLY being used.

What I find MORE HILARIOUS is when they try to pull off a genuine-looking photo and you can find all sorts of stupid oversights because it is so obviously staged.

Oh and the titles they give to these images...  :wtf:  ??? For example, look at this one:

https://www.123rf.com/photo_82601848_young-sexy-woman-in-the-data-center-server-room-didn-t-know-what-to-do.html

Yes, it's "Young sexy woman in the data center server room didn't know what to do".  :-DD  She doesn't seem clueless, how do you assume this from the picture? Insulting!  :-DD
