I saw a video recently where they attached a car jumper cable clip onto a PLCC socket.But i cant remember were i saw it or i would post a link.

Why in these stock soldering photos, are they always using a PC motherboard?
That actually looks like a reasonable use of a multimeter, to check if there's a short circuit on the drive.
