It does look like a step switch and they predated wire wrap by decades. I'll bet some of those irons are still in use in sold old exchanges. I saw some tips hanging in a shop note long again.

Forget the probing, how retard can a person be for not switching it to something that show digits.. its a bloody meter even a 5year old would think "mhm maybe I should switch the knob to something that shows digits.."

Well, many stock photos don't show anything on the displays because the idea is that the final user will photoshop something there that makes sense in their context. Like the memory with the "VIRUS!" on it earlier in the thread. Doing it with the display showing something already would be harder.

Of course, companies preparing these photobanks are often pretty clueless about what the gizmo the guy is holding is actually for and how it is used ...

Not sure the source or context of this one but was posted on Reddit in a thread about a stock image fail (holding soldering iron by the part that gets hot). I think it was even made to make fun of these stock image fails. Thought it was amusing, the light bulb really adds to it.

There is your problem, you have a light bulb in your power supply! remove it and it will work just fine.

Back in like '84 when the Mac first came out there was an Apple ad showing a young guy sitting at a table intently looking at his Mac screen, hand on the mouse. The angle of the shot was facing him almost head on so it showed the back of the Mac, not the front. The power switch was in the off position. Wish I could find it.

That one is all too realistic though. Back in college I had a professor SCREAM at me and my boss that I broke her computer while doing the cleaning and upgrading I was doing that summer. I know it worked after we were done because I had turned it on and verified it (one of the things we were doing was upgrading the memory - to 640K!). Force of habit though, I flipped it off via the power supply switch. Go back to her office, she's looking like she wants to scream at me again, I casually reach behind the computer and flip the power switch on, and of course it all works perfectly. The first of many of the same sort of thing happening over a long IT career.
