Free* electronics grab bag
« on: December 02, 2020, 05:49:04 am »
There's way too much clutter on my workbench so some stuff has to go. I collected up a USPS flat rate padded envelope chock full of random odds & ends. There are some random boards and modules, parts, assemblies, the same sorts of random stuff you'd find in surplus stores back in the day. 5.1 channel class D amplifier with loads of useful parts, NTE diodes and mosfets, a ridiculously bright green LED module with 120VAC driver board, pulse sensor from a fitness machine and other various stuff. I found a few more small odds & ends since taking the picture which I'll try to cram in there. There should be at least something that can make an interesting Covid lockdown project.

I'll send this free to anywhere in the USA on the condition that you promise to put together a similar grab bag or box and send it to someone else. Keep what you want, pass on what you don't, add some other potentially useful bits.

Guys in the USA, who has an unnecessary Keithley or Fluke desktop multimeter of real American quality?  :)
And sorry for my English.

Well it seems nobody wants this stuff, oh well, I'll let it sit around for a couple more weeks before I chuck it.

Seem to remember something similar was done a few years ago, the box of bits circled the world, the idea was you took something out of the box and put something else in before sending it on again.

It went missing, can't remember where, but it had quite a journey.

Oh, I thought you were offering a similar box, sorry I assumed someone who wanted this would PM me. Somebody else did ask me about it later so maybe what I'll do is send it to you first and then you can send a box of stuff off to him. Hopefully that'll be fair.

Ok, I would like to do this. Initially (mistake) thought you wanted the Postal fees, right away. I am living in house, near Oakland CA.

Hey, a couple things I have been holding on to:

A ten amp panel meter, says SHURITE, that literally takes a high amp input, old school ( not 20 ma).

Two really fine speakers 6 ", those cost a lot of shipping so not worth a lot. I have a couple other unique parts, as a friend's dad had passed down. A machinist had lived next door, with many heavy heavy motors but no immediate value.
  Will pm you, thanks

Oh and perhaps most unique in my parts bin, is a set of mini air pump and mini solenoid air valve, both salvaged from a personal blood pressure meter.
I also have usual stuff: 2N2222 transistors, 10 watt resistors. Plus many r/c toys, racecars etc.

No, I paid for postage to send it to the first person who asked, (and apologies, I screwed up and missed his request intially) the deal is they agree to do the same and send a similar package of stuff to the next, that way nobody should have to pay for postage more than once. The outgoing package can contain anything they don't want from this one, plus hopefully a few other items. Hopefully people have the sense not to send anything that is dangerous or just completely garbage. A padded flat rate envelope is cheap enough that I don't mind spending a few bucks to hopefully save some of my surplus bits & pieces from the landfill and also I thought it would be fun. It should be on its way to Bob now, and I passed him the address of the next guy in line, we'll see what happens.

There is of course no reason that somebody else here couldn't put together a similar package, and those passing mine on need not be limited to the size of package I used if they want to splurge and send something larger but there is no obligation, I think the flat rate padded envelope is a good minimum size to fit enough stuff to be interesting.

For those who are not aware, you can order USPS flat rate boxes in various sizes and also padded envelopes and they will deliver them to you at no charge, the idea is you effectively pay for them when you buy the postage to send them. You can also schedule a pickup right off your porch from the USPS website so the whole process can be done online without leaving the house. It's not the cheapest way to send most things but in the Covid era the convenience seems worth it.
