Back To The Future Oct 2015 Screening in Sydney
« on: July 13, 2015, 10:32:52 am »

So, let's just assume there is a special marathon screening of the trilogy on the famous 21st Oct date this year in Sydney:
a) How many would like to go to that?
and
b) What day should it be on?

Obviously the 21st of Oct this year is a Wednesday, so I figure that unfortunately might not be so convenient a day for a trilogy marathon screening?
I ask because it would require a large number of takers to make this happen, and if a Wed night isn't going to get enough takers, then perhaps the weekend before is a better bet?

Opinions please.

If Australia was a little closer to Germany I would attend, I like special events like this.

I've already planned a BTTF party at my place on 21st October, so I'm out. :-)

The real date only happens once. I think it's a good excuse to get off work early. Dave, if this is your subtle way of saying "I might be organising something", let me know if you need any outdoor A/V gear etc... Might be a good event to test NEC's new laser projector (if you can get hold of one in Australia): http://www.nec-display-solutions.com/p/dc/en/projectionRoom/projectors.xhtml

So yeah, I was going to organise a big event at the Orpheum cinema. But they checked with Universal and were given the thumbs down.
Universal supposedly have an exclusive agreement with Hoyts in Australia to show the movie.
And sure enough, you can buy tickets:
http://www.hoyts.com.au/movies/2015/back_to_the_future_30th_anniversary.aspx
But they are only showing the first movie!  :palm:  |O  :--

And it turns out Event cinema's are showing #2 on the 23rd:
https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/Movie/Back-To-The-Future-2#date=2015-10-21

This is beyond lame, so I contacted Hoyts and they can show all three movie as a marathon on Wed the 21st, but they want 100 people minimum, $40 per ticket (cheap actually for 3 movies), and most likely require and early start so no overtime required for staff. They also want 50% up front payment when it's booked.

So it's either take a gamble and try and get enough people for a real cinema, or forget that and go pirate and just do my own private marathon screening.
