Radio streaming to existing amplifier
« on: June 18, 2024, 07:27:06 pm »
Does anyone know of a commercially-available single device that can connect through WiFi to the internet feed of a radio station and drive the AUX inputs on an existing stereo system.
The ones I found through search require an external computer or other device to do the web browsing, but I want a single box that I do not have to program past browsing to the station's website.

Try google: 'internet radio tuner'

Amazon turned this guy up: Internet Radio and FM tuner

Also try: https://www.av-connection.com/?ML=218
and: https://www.sangean.com/en/product/wft-4-black

In my ignorance, I imagine the UI is important. Having a computer application would give a decent UI, and it would be useful for more than just radio.

If USB to audio is OK, then High Resolution Technologies make decent DACs, e.g. the HRT MUSICStreamer II.

I see some are available on fleabay.

There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".

The Ocean-Digital WR-10 unit found under "internet radio tuner" looks like what I wanted.

Of course, I already have computers, including a laptop I use with my TV set, including an external DAC.  I was hoping for a small single-purpose box.

You'll be best off with a Raspberry Pi or similar running open source software, see the Sonos fiasco for an example of what often happens to IoT media gadgets in the long term.

If you had been in EU'land i'd have recommended a Technisat
I have a Digitradio10 IR , and i works real nice.

Digitradio 10 IR
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/TechniSat-Digitradio-Digital-Radio-Adaptor/dp/B087XNQK7Y/

Digitradio 11 IR - Afaik just bigger Screen
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/TechniSat-DIGITRADIO-11-Bluetooth-Upgrading-Black-silver/dp/B0CSPNQTNH/

https://www.technisat.com/en_XX/DIGITRADIO-10-IR/352-10774-22920/

Ohh ... Watch out - It MUST have IR in the model name

Edit :

I both have Raspi's w. DAC & a "Converted linux mediaplayer".
Both works fine, but the wife thinks they're complicated, ie. webpage login for changing channel ...

So i wanted something "standalone" with a Screen & a Remote
