Q on Google Docs
« on: October 22, 2016, 03:10:23 am »
Is there a way to tell who is the originator of a google doc? I can see who is the owner, but this can be changed by either party that the doc has been shared with.

Background:
A person shares printed hate speech with a victim.
This person claims that they created this speech with a 3rd person on Google docs. Both of the Google docs accounts are investigated and the hate speech is found on both accounts, and the 3rd person is listed as the owner. The 3rd person claims no knowledge of any of this.

We discover that a Google doc can be created, shared with a 3rd person, and the 3rd person can be set as the owner without their involvement at all, and the doc will automatically appear on their account with them listed as the owner.

I don't use Google docs, but there just has to be a way to figure out on which account this doc was created, no?

Thanks.

There is an option to show revisions. It should show every change made to the doc along with who did it

With the file opened, try File | Show revision history.

Sometimes it will let you, sometimes not. I am not sure what's the criteria.

Also, I am not sure what you will see if the file is a copy of another file.
