Lasts longer than any primary cell, and can be charged many times in it's lifetime. Plus it is almost totally recyclable, as it has scrap value of $5. What else do you do in a rural area where there is no power, and no likelihood of lines being laid in your grandchild's lifetime. If you are a little better off you will have bought a black and white 12v TV set as well.

Tv takes more power, that needs a bigger battery and would require two people one with large battery on head the other with a TV on his, with a possibly of third person to carry pole with antennae.

Most popular B&W TV set here is $30 or so, and fits in the hand, using a tiny 5 inch crt. Runs for days on a car battery before it will not run it.

That enables you to have a satellite receiver and dish as well.
