Rosin-core vs no-clean flux vs hydro flux
« on: October 30, 2011, 01:29:12 am »
Hello,

It seems perhaps Multicore solder is minimizing rosin flux, and trying to manufacture more no clean flux cores.

Does the rosin core flux stuff make any better joints? I have been working with no clean flux for a while, but never seen if the rosin flux is any better.

What about hydro flux?

What do you think?

Thanks.M

For practical purposes you may consider no-clean flux and rosin flux to be the same thing. Both kinds of flux are chemically similar and have similar properties. Neither kind of flux needs to be cleaned after use if your only concern is corrosion. However, if you are concerned about appearance, residual flux conductivity or conformal coating, then all flux needs to be cleaned after soldering including "no-clean" flux.

In summary, you might as well assume rosin flux and no-clean flux are interchangeable.

Don't know. Is it water soluble flux? If so, don't touch it for hobby and home use. It is very corrosive and it is required that you wash all flux residues off your board after soldering.
