Homemade VNA - worth the effort?

I'm just a simple guy,without big money in my pocket.
I can't afford to my self expensive test equipments.
Really often i surfing on the net to find something of good and open source,in this case i've found this intersting project about an home made VNA.
I wanna show it to this comunity and also ask,if this project worth an try.
