Reattaching a previously uploaded image in a new post
« on: September 05, 2016, 02:02:40 am »
Is there a way to attach an image previously uploaded in one thread to a new post in a different thread?  I know you can view the original image to get the address then post it using < image > tags, but then it appears full size. I would rather be able to post it in the "expanding thumbnail" format, same as it was originally, without uploading a duplicate.

Save it and add it as an attachment again.

I think I did this once by copying the image url from the one thread and putting it in IMG tags in the new thread. The same domain referrer checks, etc. seemed to be OK with it...

Or maybe I am wrong...

Good question, never tried exactly as you want.
Done it heaps of times by copying the thumbnail URL, then placing it in another post using the image tags where as you say it appears full size. I've never seen any page loading speed penalty doing it like that but I guess they've always been small (kb) images I used.
I sometimes use another member's image but always with acknowledgement of the uploader and the source post/thread.

Anyway it's not obvious how to do it.  :-//

I don't know how to do the "exploding thumbnail", but you can have the thumbnail open in a new page. For instance, like this:

If that just the image URL inside image tags inside Hyperlink tags?

Thanks, that's almost as good, but wow - did you have to type all that code yourself?

No, I just used copy-paste. Basically like this:

Code: [Select]
[url=ImageURL][img]ThumbnailURL[/img][/url]

On most other forums I've used, when adding an attachment to a post, you can select from files you have uploaded previously in addition to files on the device you are using. That would be much easier, but apparently it's not possible here.
