Pace desoldering heater replacement.
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:51:01 pm »
hello

I have an old Pace de-soldering station.... An mBT-100e, with possibly an old style SX-55a hand piece. (no code so not 100% sure).

i need to replace the heater : (

They do not sell the sx-55 heater these days,  but the sx-70 heater looks the same size and shape, but has two extra wires,  for a sensor i believe.

I wonder does anyone know if this would fit the older hand piece?

thanks for any help!

If you cant find a replacement for a decent price, I have had this one for $28 for 3.5 years and using it everyday at work, now under $40, plus there is parts for them.

That's not a vacuum desoldering station, dude.

Doh, I misread it, my bad. Regarding desoldering equipment, I find the silverstat desolder manual pump the best, but ymmv specially with different techniques used. Have a good day.

A solder sucker is in no way comparable to vacuum desoldering equipment.

As I wrote in this post the other day to someone else who doesn’t understand the difference:
Quote
Continuous vacuum is really the only reliable, halfway gentle way to desolder through-hole components from plated through-holes. Neither wick nor a solder sucker can clear the solder between a pin and the plated hole. Continuous vacuum does, because you suck out the molten solder and keep the pin moving while the continuous vacuum cools the pin and plated hole, preventing them from re-adhering to one another.

The one-shot suction of a solder sucker doesn’t allow the cooling-in-motion that’s so critical to desoldering from plated through-holes.

In a subsequent reply to that person, I also suggested:

Watch this ancient, but extremely informative video from Pace. All of it is useful, but Part 5 (17:00-22:22) is the key method: https://youtu.be/IqE1KA0OAnM?t=1022
It really does a beautiful job of demonstrating the principle.
