Ha! That's nothing, two of my past cats have had chronic renal failure which necessitated giving them subcutaneous fluids each day (about 100ml of Ringer's solution). Not only do you have to get a needle into the cat, you have to get it to sit still for the 5-10 minutes that the infusion takes. After that giving a cat a simple subcutaneous injection is a walk in the park, I've had to do that too.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Starts with a few minutes of cat, then lots of insanely detailed programming:

The portable black hole, storing up some energy for Christmas shenanigans. (She's still using her Digikey box during the daytime, but I've moved it to the windowsill.)

Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

While I'm not a cat person myself, my partner gained an abandoned kitten during lockdown as a 'temporary foster'. needless to say Smallbob has become permanent so, I present, Smallbob:

Nah, I've lived in houses with cats, they don't like me, I don't like them and as I'm mildly allergic I'm not going to get too close.

He is kinda cute though and my OH likes him, he makes her happy so I'm happy for her to have him.

My Siamese cat had to be put down Monday due to a tumor and complications from diabetes. Very much of a bummer for me. I got her from the Humane Society 16 years ago.  :'(

Yesterday I got an appointment to go down and look at the cats they had. I really found a prize. His name on the card was Timmy, but I named him Maxim. He's a Russian Blue, a very intelligent and loyal breed ~ 1 year old. He was scared and hiding for about 3 hours but after he came out he really made himself at home. I can't believe someone turned him in, but I guess it ended up alright.  8)

P.S. This morning I couldn't find him anywhere for a while. I found him sleeping behind my oscilloscope!  :-DD
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

xrunner, my deepest condolences for the loss of your girl - they always leave us far too soon.

Maxim looks like a very regal and handsome fellow and is no doubt quite happy to have his new home.  2020 was a roller coaster til the end - let's hope his arrival and new life is a sign of better things to come.  Please give him a chin scratch as a welcome from my lot.

xrunner,
So sorry to read this  :'(
It really sucks to loose those furry friends, last year we lost all 3 of our cats, they were between 14 and 16 years old  :'(
We got two 12 week old kittens 2 months ago (brother and sister), and Emma looks a little like Maxim (I have a feeling there is some russian blue in her too ;) )

Probably just sizing you up and working out which of your boundaries to adjust, he seems to have the measure of you already

@xrunner: Condolences indeed, as we have already shared about the virtues of siamese cats. And the longer it lasts, the harder it becomes.
But a russian blue is also a very appealing sort of cat. Unfortunately I do not know one personally, but what I've heard says that you will have a close companion.

Thanks a lot everyone.  :-+

Maxim is really getting getting comfortable now. Looks like he's a real lab cat too!

Well, when most of the house classifies as a lab, he might not have a choice there. ;D

Let me guess. Your previous cat was Intersil. Cool name, by the way.

I'm looking for a story I heard a long time ago that Ive been hoping I could nail down. I read it in a book, published in the postwar era, that was meant for an audience of Americans coming into contact with Japanese culture and customs for the first time.

Anyway, one of the stories in the little book, which I foolishly lent to a friend and never saw again, was the story of how cats came to Japan. Evidently, they had been prohibited, along with other foreign things, up until then.  When they were first allowed, each cat had to have its own human. Obviously, there was more to this than that. But I cant find the story so I could know it well to tell it to others.

I cant find anything on the net to fill in this story, which had the ring of truth to it.

Can anybody give me more information?
